VCMP - Day One

The VCMP from Operation Write Home is truly one of my favorite events of the year... truly! It's so much fun and it seems like every year is even more fun than the one before. If you are stopping by this page from elsewhere and you want to see all about it, check out the VCMP Master Thread post to find out more.

I made all of Saturday's cards, just finished this morning. :) You know, one of the things I like best about the VCMP is how many new techniques you learn. Some of them are pretty challenging and to be honest, a few seemed like they might be too much work, but in the end I tried them all and I am so darned glad that I did.

I hosted the first sketch challenge, and that was a ton of fun. I am in awe of how many great cards were linked up and how so many people took the sketch and made it their own! Just look at all the great examples!

Challenge two came from Diane. We all made cards with O W and H words for OWH! Clever! I do think that my favorite was whoever made that "Otter Waving Hello." .  . that card is still cracking me up!
Here is my Old Winter Home. :) I did kind of CASE one of Sandy's old tutorials on making this cute little Hero Art's house.

Challenge three was at Seongsook's blog and at first I was kind of intimidated. I don't have any square dies like the ones she used in her tutorial. I decided to give it a try anyway, using some Nesties that I have in that jagged edge shape. I think I like how it turned out. I used the same stamp set that I used to make some triple-stamp cards last year. I do love these CTMH snowflakes! Final verdict? I do like both techniques for triple-stamping. Seongsook's version definitely uses up less paper. Hmm. Maybe I will do this one again some time.

Challenge 4 was to make a "Love You" card using one of the OWH sketches, you can find it over at Annette's blog. I seem to be using up quite a bit of white cardstock. My stash is running low. Help! I do like how this wintery love card came out, though.

Challenge 5 comes from Donna Inks and to be perfectly honest, I was reluctant to try this one. First, because I had just cleaned all of my acrylic blocks to prepare for the VCMP and I wasn't too excited about mucking them up again! Secondly, I have a tape story. I can't ever find masking tape around here. I DO have a surplus of bandage tape, from decades of working at the hospital. Transpore is that hideous plastic tape that is used to secure IV lines and bandages. It's the kind that rips off half of your hide when you pull it off and it leaves behind that awful black gluey mess. I must admit though, that it has an interesting texture. (I also admit, that in the past, I have used this tape to wrap gifts with when I couldn't find the Scotch tape. Sorry, friends and family!) So here is my bandage tape card. After being so "blah" about this tutorial at first, I can't believe how much I loved it. Definitely going to try this again... maybe I will finally use up all of this blasted tape!

Transpore by 3M makes awesome cards. who knew? :) Go try this tutorial.

Can't wait to get started with Sunday's cards! Hope that you are all having a wonderful Labor Day weekend as well.

I love how your love card turned out especially with the swirls on the bear and the background!

Bandage tape background added a nice texture
